Livermore, California Wineries

Everyone talks about the Napa Valley and Sonoma Wine Country, but Livermore wineries have been on the rise for a while now. In fact, it's one of the oldest wine regions in the state. No longer one of the best-kept secrets in Northern California, Livermore has become a prime destination for oenophiles. There are dozens of wineries specializing in many varietals, both reds and whites. Most wineries offer tastings during the weekends or by appointment. For a memorable treat, take a winery tour.

Most winery tasting rooms are open Friday through Sunday from 12 to 4:30 p.m.

Most winery tasting rooms charge a tasting fee of $5 to $10.

Livermore Valley Winery Events

As the weather warms up, so do the festivals, celebrations, and special events surrounding all things wine related. In July, Taste Our Terroir is a 4-day food and wine event featuring wine pairing from 20 wineries and Bay Area chefs, all in competition for the People’s Choice Award. In August, shopping and sipping mix at the Sunset Sip & Shop at the Livermore Premium Outlets. Labor Day weekend brings the 32nd Annual Harvest Wine Celebration, showcasing more than 40 Livermore Wine Country wineries at the peak of the harvest.

Wineries in the Area

There are dozens of fabulous wineries in the Livermore Valley specializing in the craft and art of winemaking. Bodegas Aguirre Winery hones in on premium red wines, which you can sample in the tasting room on Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4:30 p.m.. Nestled in a charming valley, Stony Ridge Winery is family operated and owned and a wonderful venue for events. The tasting room is open every day and by appointment. Occasio Winery makes “micro lots” of wine and small lots-about 100 to 200 cases-making it all the more valuable. The tasting room is open Friday through Sunday.

Livermore Valley Wine & Cycle Tours provides a guided tasting tour, a gourmet lunch, and transport vehicles for purchases tour participants make at the wineries. Tours take place during the summer months, starting in May.

Know that most tasting rooms are open from about noon to 4 p.m., on the weekends, or by appointment if you want to avoid the crowds. Don’t want to taste and drive?
